First Prototype — PillowFlow v1

PillowFlow’s first prototype transformed a rough concept into a real, testable product. Using a high-density EVA core and a soft silicone strap, the v1 design successfully delivered comfort and stability for long drives and flights. Early testing validated the ergonomics and materials—and uncovered new insights that now shape the next generation of PillowFlow.

First Prototype — PillowFlow v1

From Idea to Object

After months of sketches, modeling, and material tests, the first tangible PillowFlow prototype was born. Seeing it in physical form for the first time was surreal—what began as a rough taxi-driver hack now looked like something ready for the modern traveler.

We went for a minimal, sculpted shape—lightweight yet structured, with just enough surface curvature to cradle the thigh without bulk. The main goal was to prove one thing: can this design truly stay in place, feel natural, and relieve pressure in real conditions?

Materials & Build

  • Core Material: EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) foam for its perfect balance of firmness and resilience.

  • Surface Finish: Smooth matte coat for comfort and friction control.

  • Strap: Soft silicone band—non-slip, hypoallergenic, and stretch-resistant.

  • Dimensions: Compact enough for travel bags, yet long enough to support across multiple seat types.

Every element was chosen to handle hours of sitting, vibration, and temperature change—conditions faced by drivers, commuters, and frequent flyers.

The First Tests

Initial field tests began in everyday cars and flights. Early observations:

  • Comfort: Noticeably less thigh tension after 45+ minutes.

  • Stability: Silicone strap worked well on leather and fabric seats alike.

  • Feedback: Some testers requested slightly firmer support for heavier users.

The verdict? Version 1 worked. It wasn’t perfect—but it delivered the core promise: ergonomic alignment that reduced fatigue.

Key Learnings

  • EVA density affects long-term comfort more than expected—micro-adjustments matter.

  • Strap thickness determines perceived “security” while sitting.

  • Users prefer a more defined curve around the inner thigh area for natural positioning.

These notes now drive the v2 redesign—focusing on material optimization and universal fit.

What’s Next

  • Introduce dual-density EVA core for adaptive pressure zones.

  • Refine silicone strap geometry for faster setup and better hold.

  • Begin packaging and usability tests for travel integration.

The takeaway

Version 1 proved the PillowFlow concept works in the real world. From taxi-seat inspiration to precision prototype, the journey has just begun.
